In a significant leap towards sustainable urban living, TACTIC, has successfully launched its pilot programme in Barcelona. This groundbreaking initiative aims to revitalise the local economy by offering residents easy access to high-quality, fresh local products through a green delivery service.

The pilot started at the end of June 2024 at Mercat de Provençals, marking a milestone for the Barcelona City Council and its efforts to embrace sustainability. The inaugural order was placed via Mercatsaunclic, a pioneering digital platform designed by Hermeneus World to enhance the visibility and reach of local markets and businesses. Through Mercatsaunclic (website and mobile app), customers can browse and purchase a variety of products from local vendors with just a few clicks.

The process: from shopping to the delivery

While Mercatsaunclick has a catalogue of many Markets around the city, Mercat de Provençals is the only market currently offering this sustainable delivery service.

Once the customer orders through Mercatsaunclic, the shop owners at Mercat de Provençals promptly prepare the items. Once the order is ready, the market staff keeps it in a refrigerated storage unit at the market entrance to ensure freshness until it’s picked up.

The sustainable delivery service, provided by VANaPEDAL, collects the order from the refrigerated storage unit and delivers the order using a zero-emission vehicle. This process ensures an environmentally friendly service and the maintenance of the cold chain of the products from start to finish.

“Our goal is to foster a more sustainable future by making it easier to access local products while promoting zero-emission delivery services,” a TACTIC representative stated. “This initiative supports local businesses and contributes to a greener city.”

With the rise of e-commerce and changing consumer habits, providing easy access to local and fresh products with low-emission delivery benefits both customers and small business owners. As cities worldwide grapple with climate change and environmental degradation challenges, innovative solutions like TACTIC’s green delivery service are essential. By reducing emissions and supporting local producers, TACTIC is helping to create a model for sustainable urban living that other cities can emulate.

If initiatives like TACTIC were to expand their services to other cities, the vision would greatly amplify sustainability efforts. This would offer even more residents access to fresh, local products delivered sustainably.
